The Opportunity
Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working directly with Principal Engineers, you will joining our team of multi-skilled Engineers engaged in design, simulation and test activities.
Your role will involve:
Developing effective cross-functional relationships and collaborations to build and maintain a high-performance team environment.
Playing a key role in technical discussions and decisions on project direction. Collaborating with customers, colleagues and liaising with research partners to identify project objectives, and the skills, tools and supporting systems required to meet those objectives.
Working within the team of engineers and technicians to deliver objectives to agreed quality, budgets, and timescales, where you will lead defined work packages and deliverables under the guidance of a Principal Engineer.
Providing advice and guidance to colleagues working on projects.
Assisting with the training, learning and development of junior engineers and technicians, acting as a role model to others in the team.
Creating and executing digital engineering projects from kick-off through to technical sign-off.
Reviewing data output from work-stream activity, ensuring data accuracy, reliability and quality. Reviewing pull requests from the rest of the engineering team and adhering to appropriate quality standards, naming conventions etc.
Creation and delivery of project and research outputs, including customer project updates, reports, papers, and presentations.
Representing IAAPS at client meetings, conferences, and technical presentations, where appropriate.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a self-starter with relevant technical experience who can demonstrate their knowledge and skills in digital engineering and make an immediate impact.
Essential Experience & Skills:
Engineering degree in a relevant subject, typically Mechanical/Electrical/Design
Significant technical experience in a research and development environment, ideally electrified powertrain systems, combustion systems and/or system components, using physics based modelling, machine learning & statistical methods, analysis and data visualisation techniques.
Track record of delivering high quality engineering research or product/system development as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team within time and budget constraints.
Able to demonstrate a good understanding of one or more of the following areas: Hybrid systems, Electric motors and drives, Internal Combustion Engines, Transmissions and driveline, Turbomachinery, Battery Design and Management, System Simulation, Connected Autonomous vehicles, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc.
Experience of software development methodologies, platforms, collaborative development environments and modern version controlling methods, processes & systems.
Understanding of the implementation of appropriate legislative and IAAPS standards, and industry best practice for test facility operation.
Knowledge of company and customer confidentiality agreements to maintain the security of company and customer intellectual property.
Proven ability to work within a matrix structure, building and maintaining successful working collaborations across IAAPS.
Experience of working effectively on multi-disciplinary projects with a team of engineers and technicians.
Good communication and relationship-building skills; ability to adapt personal style to different audiences, providing feedback, advice, and guidance to team members.
Previous experience of supporting or leading the resolution of business, technical and process issues within a project team environment.
Experience of working with customers to understand market needs and develop technical relationships.
Ability to work collaboratively to develop solutions to technical challenges; willing to share ideas and engage others in discussions and problem-solving.
A flexible approach to work, with the ability to seek out opportunities to engage in learning, and meaningful development.
Ability to proactively manage competing demands and deadlines; be a role model and support others to adapt to change and achieve results for the team.
Location and Flexibility:
This role is based at the Bristol & Bath Science Park. We operate a hybrid model, expecting a minimum of 60% on-site presence. This on-site focus is crucial for developing internal communications, building customer relationships, and delivering project activities.
It is expected that this is a full-time position. However, we would consider flexible working options to cover this.
